riceworks Visits the Neighborhood Festivals in Boston

Ask anyone you know that has visited or gone to school in Boston about the Neighborhood Festivals that take place every weekend throughout the summer and fall months, and they’ll tell you about the festivities, fun and food that await you on every cobblestoned street corner.

Full of ethnicity & diversity, the riceworks team discovered neighborhoods such as South Boston, the side of town that twinkles with Irish eyes; and the North End, the Italian neighborhood and home of the cannoli and homemade pasta.

What the riceworks team discovered at each and every one of these street festivals is that whatever the cuisine of choice… whether it be plowman platters or plates of pasta and pizzelles… riceworks was always a crowd-pleasing snack!

We had a great time at the Fisherman’s Feast in the North End; handing out samples on the streets of Southie; and exploring the delicious food at the St. Rocco’s festival.

Wherever we were handing out the samples, we were welcomed with open arms and greeted to the neighborhoods like we were “one of theirs”.

From the Boston ricework team… Thanks for the hospitality, and for welcoming you into your neighborhoods!

riceworks Better in Boston at MixFest 2010

The riceworks Team was out in full-force handing out thousands of bags of riceworks Gourmet Brown Rice Crisps while enjoying the Boston waterfront and the music of Sara Bareilles, Kris Allen, Switchfoot, The GooGoo Dolls, Spill Canvas and special guest, Maroon 5, while at MixFest 2010.

The Bank of America Pavilion, located at the edge of Boston Harbor is a great place to enjoy a summer concert, view the magnificent Boston skyline and watch the fishing vessels and yachts sail into Boston Harbor… of course, while munching on riceworks Brown Rice Crisps.

The MixFest, sponsored by Mix 104.1 FM, is an annual concert which never fails to feature fantastic up-and-coming bands, as well as classic favorites.

Everyone that tried the riceworks crisps loved the taste and crunch of the four flavors that the riceworks Team was serving up that night. At one point the riceworks team looked over the crowd of concert-goers and there were hundred upon hundreds of folks munching on and enjoying riceworks… What a site to be seen! We think we might have actually broken a world-record for having the most people in one place eating a snack they can feel good about eating!

But the highlight of the evening was when the riceworks team met the folks from Ageless Dreamer, one the recipients of the riceworks Show Us Your Goodness program. Tricia Ryan, Director of Marketing for riceworks, was on-hand to present the check to this meaningful organization. It was a pleasure to meet everyone from Ageless Dreamers… your organization and the work you do is phenomenal – keep up the good work!

The riceworks team thanks everyone that came to the riceworks booth! It was good to meet you all!

The most popular flavor of the evening was Salsa Fresca – which one of the concert-goers described as “salsa built right into the crisp”! And with tomato, green bell pepper, onions, garlic, parsley and cilantro all ingredients in the Salsa Fresca riceworks the description is right on!

Extreme heat and humidity in Quebec are no match for riceworks!

Bonjour! We are on the last week of our Quebec tour! This week we have experienced daily temperatures of 33 degrees plus humidity! Despite the heat, Quebec was enthusiastic about our visit on Wednesday to the IGA. Unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy the beautiful scenery as we have on past drives up to Quebec City due to the humidity, but we still got a glimpse of the St. Lawrence River and Quebec Bridge! We met many cottagers out on Wednesday doing their grocery shopping, and enjoying the air conditioned IGA!

On Thursday, we were at the Sainte-Therese IGA location just outside of Laval, QC. Just as we handed out our last sample of riceworks for the day, we looked up and saw the biggest black cloud! It was welcomed with open arms however; as we knew cool temperatures would follow the rain.

We haven’t met as many children this week, as school is back in Quebec already. We continually have moms excited and thrilled to pack a new healthy snack in their lunches though!

The team is looking forward to visiting locations in Westmount, Blainville, Lachine, Pointe Claire and last but certainly not least, Gatineau, QC! Watch for us!

riceworks Invades School Lunches When in Quebec

Salut! We have just started our second week of sampling riceworks in Quebec. riceworks continues to be a big hit with the locals. Today we were in Laval and Point St Charles, QC. We met a lot of enthusiastic children that were eager and excited to try riceworks. We heard from their mothers that riceworks would be a great addition to their lunches, as it is a healthy alternative to other snacks.

Just 15 minutes outside of Montreal, in Laval, QC, the riceworks team enjoyed hearing from the different customers about how they incorporate riceworks into family snacking. A mother of 3 shared some cool and interesting takes on using the crisps in fun dishes for her kids when they come home from school. “They love dipping them into different spreads and crushing different flavours into one big bag! I think they like the mixed up flavours and the surprise element”.

The team’s time in Quebec has been a great experience thus far. We have adjusted to the language and speak comfortably amongst ourselves and with consumers. The landscape and architecture are gorgeous. We have been admiring the Old Montreal, Cathedrals, mountains and unique residential areas while travelling to the different locations between Montréal and Quebec City and all destinations surrounding these breathtaking cities.

We are looking forward to the up coming weeks in “la belle Provence”.

riceworks rolls into Montreal

Bonjour! On Tuesday we travelled from Toronto to Montreal, Quebec. As soon as we arrived in Montreal, the locals were extremely helpful and welcoming, as well as patient with our francais! We have been in Laval, Montreal and Ste-Catherine de la Jacques-Cartier this week, and riceworks has been a hit!

Many people have been asking if we have their favourite flavour on board! The weather has been hot, cold and we had rain today! The grocery stores have been very excited to see us. Customers were enjoying munching on riceworks while they were shopping for their groceries.

While we were at the IGA store in Laval, Quebec, we met some very friendly people selling corn to raise money for local charities in Laval. They were very entertaining and helpful!

The riceworks team will be travelling near Quebec City tomorrow, and we are eager to see another part of this beautiful and unique province.

We are excited to continue traveling between Montreal and Quebec City for the next two weeks and checking out some sites! Check back soon for more pictures and updates on our Quebec tour!

riceworks Better at Concerts: Lilith Fair and John Mayer

The Boston riceworks Team rocked-out for two consecutive Friday’s this summer at the Comcast Center located in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Thankfully, the weather was absolutely amazing for both of the shows at this open-aired venue that is one of the largest concert facilities in Massachusetts. (By the way… have we mentioned how phenomenal the weather has been ALL summer here in New England? It’s been gorgeous!)

First up for riceworks concert tour was The Lilith Fair, a celebration of woman in music. The line-up included classic singers, such as Sarah McLachlan, as well as up-and-coming newcomers like Tegan & Sara and Sara Bareilles. The crowd at this concert was unbelievable… the riceworks team witnessed Sisterhood at its best! The concert-goers welcome riceworks with open arms and were eating up the fact that the Sea Salt, Salsa Fresca and the Sweet Chili varieties were vegan, as well as gluten-free.

The next Friday evening, the Boston riceworks Team was back rocking for the John Mayer concert, which was opened by the band Train. What a great show this was! A starlit sky, high energy atmosphere, songs that everyone sang along to and, of course, riceworks in abundance! Surely a night all will remember.

While at these concert we met so many awesome fans… of both the musical performers and of riceworks. However, our “Most Fun to Meet” Award had to go to a Bride-To-Be, her Bridal party and best buddies who were enjoying the last hurrah Bachelorette Party with riceworks as the official “munchie” of the evening! Thanks for letting us in on the fun!

At both shows, the riceworks team was amazed at the wide range of ages that were in attendance. We met a few groups of three-generation concert-goers with Grandma, Mom and Daughters all enjoying the shows… and of course their ricework Brown Rice Crisp samples.

The next concert in the ricework’s Boston Sampling Tour line-up? The MixFest! More on that concert coming up in a blog soon!
